Studies on Tintinnida Using Scanning Electron Microscopy

Abstract
Two species of Tintinnida were grown in vitro and their loricae examined by SEM [scanning electron microscopy]. Tintinnopsis parva loricae clearly showed the anterior spiral region characteristic of a number of species in this genus. A novel method of building a lorica using fibrous spherules, was found for Tintinnidium sp. Earlier analyses of the structure of the adoral membranelles are confirmed and additional facts on the arrangement of the somatic cilia are given.
