Abstract
New primates are described from the Paleocene of North America and the most ancient known primates are diagnosed as the new suborder Paromomyiformes, a monophyletic higher category. Hitherto unknown species of the Paromomyiformes, probably of the Paromomyidae in Asia, and in either North America, Europe or possibly, but not likely in Africa, gave rise to the strepsirhines and haplorhines (tarsiiforms included).
