Preventing pressure sores in orthopaedics

Abstract
During my allocation on the orthopaedic unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital, it became clear that the staff considered the pressure sore incidence on their wards to be lower than the 66 per cent figure quoted by Versluysen (1). As the study by Versluysen was carried out in a large London teaching hospital, it seemed desirable to perform an abbreviated study in a small provincial hospital to ascertain if the incidence was indeed as low as staff supposed it to be, and if so, why.
