Abstract
78 pairs of rats and their progeny were studied following ingestion of food containing lead largely in metal form. The Pb content varied from 0.5-12 mg./100 g. The mortality among the young of the 2d generation was 20-80% and the survivors were stunted in growth. 13 of the original 78 pairs died of pulmonary disease, chiefly pneumonia, and their kidneys contained pathologic inclusion bodies. Kidney suspensions containing inclusion bodies were prepared in broth-saline and injected subcut. into rats, mice, and guinea pigs. Inclusions were not detected in any of these animals. Keywords
