Abstract
Four techniques are described which permit single bar‐press apparatus to be used for generation of psychophysical functions. Bate of response is a useful dependent variable for measuring strength of behaviour associated with negative stimulus in two of methods. When a warning signal is introduced with discrete negative and positive stimuli, situation becomes logically akin to traditional infra‐human psychophysical procedures. Bate of response is then no longer useful as a variable, but because any given response does not alter animal's geographical position, bar‐pressing situation offers certain advantages over traditional procedures. These advantages are incorporated in two remaining techniques described. Keywords
