ENDOCRINE FACTORS INFLUENCING TUMOR DEVELOPMENT1THE EFFECT OF PROLAN UPON THE MARSH-BUFFALO ADENOCARCINOMA

Abstract
In expts. with 61 virgin [female] mice, monthly treatment with prolan for 11 mos. produced 200-300% ovarian hypertrophy, and therefore marked ovarian hyperfunction, but failed to influence the onset or incidence of adenocarcinoma of the breast to which this strain is subject. The endogenous production of estrin and its related compounds by the ovary through prolan stimulation did not influence carcinogenesis, and the production of carcinogenesis by massive doses of estrin may be without physiologic significance.
