Abstract
Helfrich's study of the steric interaction of undulating infinite membranes is extended to the case of finite size (L) bilayers by introducing an infrared cutoff for the wavevectors of the fluctuating deformations. We obtain the steric free energy of the system as a function of the distance d of separation of the bilayers. It goes from a power law behaviour in 1/d2 for d/LKeywords
