Abstract
A 3-beam magneto-optical (MO) disk drive with overwriting and read-verifying functions achieves a high data transfer rate of 2.1 MB/s at a disk rotation of 5400 rpm. The 3-beam drive has sufficient focusing, tracking servo performance and a read/write phase margin of more than 35% to allow for the use of ISO standard 130-mm MO disks. Read/write compatibility with a wide write power margin is obtained between the 3-beam drive and conventional MO drives. Keywords
