Abstract
In four trials the acceptability of dehydrated feces was excellent when fed to growing sheep as 20 to 80% of a mixed ration. Dehydrated feces furnished 40 to over 90% of the ration nitrogen and digestibility of ration nitrogen was 44 to 62%. The rations contained about 11% protein and all sheep were in positive nitrogen balance. Retention of digested nitrogen was 18 to 72% depending on rate of intake and growth and these values compared favorably with comparable values of 16 to 65% for soybean meal rations. Rations containing 20 to 44% dehydrated cattle, swine or poultry feces plus corn or corn starch, corn cobs, molasses and minerals had dry matter and organic matter digestibilities of 58 to 69%, respectively. Regression analysis gave dry matter and organic matter digestibilities of 53 and 64%, respectively, for dehaydrated caged layer feces. Copyright © 1972. American Society of Animal Science .
