Abstract
A general analysis is given for the fields produced by an arbitrary two-dimensional current distribution at a fixed height over a layered conductive half-space. The solution obtained is modified to account for the presence of an elevated cable that could be a metal conductor or a pipe-line. The solution is sufficiently general to predict the induced currents in the cable and the associated secondary fields. Some limiting cases, at very low frequencies, are considered where the results yield simple formulae that have a clear physical meaning. Keywords
