Abstract
A patient in whom avascular necrosis of 1 femoral head and, later, clinical gout developed underwent hip surgery which revealed that the femoral head and surrounding synovial membrane were covered with monosodium urate crystals. Although cases of hyperuricemia and gout in nontraumatic avascular necrosis of the femoral head were reported, examination of biopsy specimens from such patients was rare. Careful studies will be necessary to determine the incidence and importance of urate crystal deposition in such patients. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
