Hypocholesterolemic action of tricyclic diterpenoids in rats.

Abstract
Various tricyclic diterpenoid derivatives of totarol [Thujopsis dolabrata], abietane and pimarene [Cryptomeria japonica] groups apparently had serum cholesterol lowering action in rats. Inhibition of intestinal cholesterol absorption was apparently involved in the main mechanism of hypocholesterolemic action of totarol and abietic acid.
