Abstract
Abstract— Cyclic AMP was found to accumulate in rabbit vagus nerve after stimulation of specific β‐adrenoceptors. The increase in cyclic AMP content by either isoproterenol or epinephrine was inhibited by the β‐adrenoceptor antagonists sotalol and propranolol. α‐Adrenoceptor agonists and antagonists, indirect sympathomimetics and theophylline had no effect on the accumulation of cyclic AMP in vagus nerve. The cyclic AMP increase caused by either β‐adrenoceptor agents or adenosine was found to have no effect on resting potentials, action potentials or on post‐tetanic hyperpolarization.
