Abstract
The present discussion enunciates several determinants which influence the degree to which bonding (between patient and therapist) takes place within a psychotherapeutic interaction. These parameters have been sometimes regarded as “innate” or “untrainable” since they remained unspecified and were therefore heeded differently by different therapists. More careful attention to these verifiable dimensions might help minimize the likelihood of premature termination—a formidable obstacle to implementing an effective treatment plan for many therapists.
