Lack of Relationship of Febrile Response to Endotoxin and Brain Stem 5-Hydroxytryptamine

Abstract
Studies with DL parachlorophenylalanine (p-CPA) in rabbits demonstrated that this substance administered IP [intraperitoneally] to rabbits depleted brain stem 5HT [5-hydroxytryptophan] to very low levels but did not alter febrile responses to bacterial endotoxin. The inhibition of febrile responses to endotoxin produced by reserpine is due to some action other than depletion of brain stem 5HT.
