Childhood Depression and Adult Personality Disorder

Abstract
STUDIES1-7 of the long-term sequelae of childhood major depressive disorder (MDD) typically report increased risk of comorbid and postremission psychosocial disturbance that may continue into adulthood. Severe and persistent impairment in psychosocial functioning may place depressed youths at risk for more pervasive and enduring psychopathological features, as reflected by the Axis II personality disorders (PDs). However, little attention has been paid to assessing PDs as potential sequelae of preadult-onset MDD.
