Insulin Levels in Hereditary Ataxias

Abstract
To the Editor: We read with great interest the article entitled "An Unusual Form of Diabetes Mellitus in Ataxia Telangiectasia" by Schalch, McFarlin and Barlow (New Eng J Med 282:1396, 1970).In a related study, 50-g oral glucose tolerance tests were performed (after an overnight fast) in three lean sisters with typical features of Friedreich's ataxia. All were well nourished before the study, and there was no family history of diabetes mellitus.
