Abstract
ONE of the "old saws" of the law of medical practice used to be that physicians were not liable for mere failure to diagnose an illness correctly. Defense lawyers were frequently heard to comfort their doctor clients by assuring them that they would not be required to pay damages in court for errors of judgment. Like most dogmatic statements in the law, this one was never fully true. Five years ago, several important cases were pointed out in which physicians were held liable for incorrect diagnoses.1 Now, however, two very much more important new cases may well bury the old . . .Keywords
