Abstract
The columella auris of Uma is smaller in comparison to that of the other sand lizards and does not articulate firmly with the quadrate. The depressor mandibulae anterior of Uma is smaller than those of Holbrookia and Callisaurus, while the constrictor colli is much larger than the same muscle of the other two genera. Apparently the genus Uma represents a very early offshoot of the basic sand lizard progenitor. Keywords
