Abstract
The preparation of polyphenylene oxides by the oxidative coupling polymerization of 2,6-dimethylphenol with CuCl2 -amine complexes has been described. The reaction mechanism was studied by means of ESR and NMR spectroscopy and conductivity measurements. It was established that the CuCl2 -amine complex exhibited high selectivity in the formation of polyphenylene oxides via a cationic mechanism. Keywords
