Abstract
Formulation of a non-equilibrium model of an ionic system with a narrow acid–base boundary (representing the “electrolyte diode”) is introduced and its predictions are compared with those based on the traditional simplified model with a local electroneutrality and instantaneous local dissociation equilibria assumptions. Significant differences have been found in the spatial profiles around the acid–base boundary. Keywords
