Abstract
Improved use of laboratory services is essential to laboratory cost containment. Providing quality laboratory testing is paramount to providing positive patient outcomes. Neither can be met without a medical technologist consultant. The effectiveness of this new consulative practice will be determined by the practitioner’s skills and abilities which must be developed. A cooperative relationship between medical technologists, physicians, and other health care providers will result in the recognition, respect, and legitimization of the profession. Keywords
