A FURTHER OBSERVATION ON THE BIOGENESIS OF HYOSCYAMINE

Abstract
It is found that when C14-methyl-labeled methionine is fed to mature Datura stramonium and the alkaloids isolated, only the hyoscyamine but not the hyoscine was radioactive. There seems to be little doubt, therefore, that as stated by Trautner hyoscine is formed at a comparatively early stage in the development of the plant, after which hyoscyamine is formed exclusively.
