TIME OF FLORAL INITIATION IN BROMUS SPP.

Abstract
The floral initiation times of northern and southern climatypes of cultivated bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.) and a native bromegrass (B. pumpellianus Scribn.) were determined under field conditions at Beaverlodge, Alberta. Both climatypes of B. inermis underwent floral initiation in the spring with no differences in time or degree of initiation. B. pumpellianus completed floral initiation in the fall prior to freeze-up. Initiated meristems survived the winter and resumed development in the spring.
