Abstract
A hyperglycaemic response is elicited in adult males of the american cockroach, Periplaneta americana, within 60 min of anaesthetizing insects using nitrogen, chilling, or diethyl ether. Hyperglycaemia is also produced as a result of handling insects without anaesthesia. Insects which have been anaesthetized with carbon dioxide do not exhibit a marked change in haemolymph sugar concentration. Keywords
