A quantitative study of succinic acid in muscle

Abstract
Glutamic and aspartic acids, when added to minced muscle under anaerobic conditions, increased the amount of succinic, fumaric and malic acids. Neither ammonia, urea, uric acid nor amide N was produced. There was an increased O uptake on adding glutamic and aspartic acids. Glycine, alanine, valine, leucine and tyrosine inhibited the muscle''s own respiration. Malic and fumaric acids were formed under aerobic conditions after the addition of glutamic and aspartic acids.
