Stability of a Bar Under Eccentric Follower Force

Abstract
A uniform cantilevered bar subjected at the free end to an eccentric, compressive follower force is considered. It is shown that, for cross sections having two axes of symmetry and vanishing warping rigidity, stability may be lost only by bending-torsional flutter. In the case of non-vanishing warping rigidity, either bending-torsional flutter or bending-torsional buckling may occur, depending on the parameters of the system.
