Abstract
Sparsomycin, a sulfur-containing antibiotic isolated from Streptomyces sparsogens, is a potent synthesis inhibitor whose action has previously been observed in KB cells, rabbit reticulocytes and Escherichia coli This study using a mouse liver cell-free system demonstrated that sparsomycin inhibits peptide bond formation by affecting the ribosomes The ribosomal site of action was not determined.
