Concentrations of tinidazole and metronidazole in serum, saliva and alveolar bone

Abstract
Concentrations of metronidazole and tinidazole were assayed in serum, mixed saliva, parotid and submandibular saliva, dental alveolar serum and alveolar bone after oral administration of a single dose of I g. Mean maximal peaks in serum were found to be about 20 mg/l for both drugs and occurred after 2–6 h. Concentrations in saliva were in the same range as those in serum. The ratio of concentrations in bone/serum was 1/10. The concentrations obtained from all tissues studied were well above the minimum inhibitory concentrations for the anaerobic bacteria most often isolated from orofacial infections.
