Abstract
Concentrations of metronidazole and tinidazole were assayed in serum, mixed saliva, parotid and submandibular saliva, dental alveolar serum and alveolar bone after oral administration of a single dose of I g. Mean maximal peaks in serum were found to be about 20 mg/l for both drugs and occurred after 2–6 h. Concentrations in saliva were in the same range as those in serum. The ratio of concentrations in bone/serum was 1/10. The concentrations obtained from all tissues studied were well above the minimum inhibitory concentrations for the anaerobic bacteria most often isolated from orofacial infections. Keywords
