Abstract
Starting from the bending energy [FORMULA] of smectic A liquid crystals, we derive a gauge field theory of dislocation lines which is of the Ginzburg-Landau type with a complex field describing the grand canonical ensemble of dislocation lines and the gauge field accounting for the long-range « elastic » interactions among theseKeywords
