Abstract
This review presents recent developments and advances in the field of vibrational spectroscopy as utilized in the studies of surface and interfacial structures affecting adhesion. Various surface and interface sensitive techniques are discussed with emphasis on current advances and future trends in the field of adhesion. Described here are principles and applications of Raman, surface enhanced Raman, and surface/interface sensitive Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic methods to studies of polymer-metal, polymer-ceramic, polymer-polymer interfaces and their relevance to adhesion.
