Stoffwechselversuche mit Fettsäuren mittlerer Kettenlänge. II. Mitteilung. Mittlere Fettsäuren im Hautstoffwechsel bei cholinarmer Kost

Abstract
A choline-deficient diet is described supplemented with either the glycerides of the intermediate chain length (C8-C12) fatty acids (10-40% of the weight of the food) or with 40% olive oil or lard. Only slight or no fatty degeneration of the liver was observed during the experimental period. The quantity of fat deposited in cutis and sub-cutis during choline deficiency showed no difference from the quantity accumulated in the control experiment. The composition of the fat was the same: there was an increase in the amount of octanoic and decanoic acid up to about 7% of the total fatty acids. In subcutis only decanoic acid accumulated. There was no lipotropic effect of choline on the fat metabolism of the skin.
