Abstract
Gamma‐ray spectra of the new neutron deficient nuclei 8 0Zr, 7 9Y, and 8 0Y have been measured in coincidence with the evaporation residues identified according to their Z‐ and A‐values with the Munich heavy ion recoil spectrometer in the reaction 2 4Mg+5 8 Ni. The relative cross sections can be explained with the assumption that the protons and alpha‐particles evaporate from strongly deformed compound states. A comparison of the signature splitting of the tentative yrast band of 7 9Y with the rotational bands K=5/2 in neighbouring nuclei, suggest a low γ‐deformation for 7 9Y and 7 7Sr relative to 8 1Y, 7 9Sr, 7 5Kr and 7 7Kr.Keywords
