Abstract
Analysis of 73 samples of soil and 90 of herbage from affected and healthy areas of the Scottish Borders suggested that the disease is due to a deficiency not of Fe, Cu or Mn, but possibly of Co. There was no definite relationship between the Co in soil (extracted by oxalate buffer at pH 3.3) and herbage; there was 0.2 to 0.05 p.p.m. Co in the herbage but it decreased from Spring to Summer. Administration of 14 daily doses of 1 mg. Co (as CoCl2) kept stock on pining land in good health, and cured pining animals. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
