Nucleophilic reactions of electrogenerated superoxide ion

Abstract
Electrochemical techniques were used to show that in dipolar aprotic solvents superoxide ion is an effective nucleophile in substitution (with primary and secondary alkyl halides), elimination (with tertiary and 2-aryl ethyl halides), and addition (to activated double bonds). Mechanisms inferred from instrumental studies were confirmed by controlled-potential electrolysis.
