Abstract
Guinier—Preston (GP) zone formation in a high-purity Al-Zn-Mg alloy has been studied using transmission electron microscopy. The results provide for the first time direct evidence showing the formation of spherical coherent GP zones at room temperature. Artificial ageing below the GP zone solvus also causes the formation of spherical GP zones in the alloy. Keywords
