Abstract
The binding energy of bound states in semiconductors is decreased by the presence of free carriers. A calculation using a Debye—Huckel screened Coulomb potential accounts for the observed changes. The use of this potential is justified on theoretical grounds even for carrier concentrations which fall outside the classical region of validity of the Debye—Huckel theory. Keywords
