Abstract
The U.K. contribution to this section of I.B.P. was led by the Nature Conservancy, first with a review of sites of national importance to biological conservation in Great Britain. Besides the existing 140 National Nature Reserves, 395 sites of equivalent importance (grade 1) have been identified, 111 of these being rated internationally important. Queen’s University, Belfast, conducted a similar exercise for Northern Ireland. Keywords
