Abstract
This study was undertaken largely because of the general interest which the subject of overweight is now attracting, but also in order to compare data obtained in the southeastern part of the United States with somewhat similar data recorded in the Philippine Islands by Siler.1 In the latter review the statement is made that there is a significant correlation between underweight and low systolic blood pressures on the one hand, and overweight and high systolic blood pressures on the other. In a brief statement as to the results of the annual examinations of 12,000 army officers in 1923, 2 the conclusion is also reached that there is a significant correlation between overweight and arterial hypertension.
