Abstract
The natural variability in incidence and severity of oxygen concentration cell crevice corrosion in seawater systems has been shown to follow prescribed statistical patterns. These considerations have been used to develop a viable multiple crevice test method for assessing comparative alloy capabilities and for isolating specific geometrical and environmental effects. Test data developed by this method have also provided interesting insight into the corrosion mechanisms involved.
