Abstract
Assuming that the important parameter of the CS is the amount of change from the pre-CS condition, a decrease in intensity should be as effective a CS as an increase. Assuming that the absolute value of the CS has a motivational property, an increase in intensity should be more effective. Both an increase and decrease in intensity were equally effective CSs. Apparently no impairment in conditioning occurs when the CSs are reversed for the 2 groups. Generalization should be viewed in terms of a surface including the non-CS condition as well as the CS condition. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)Keywords
