Effect of Age on Honey Bee 1 Foraging Distance and Pollen Collection

Abstract
Genetically marked “cordovan” bees were captured while foraging at various distances up to 1,135 m from an experimental apiary. Ferrous identification tags were attached to bees in the field and recovered magnetically when tagged bees returned to hives containing known-age cordovan populations. The mean age of foraging bees at all distances was 23.8 days, and the mean foraging distance of all ages was 279.6 m. Age of bees did not influence the foraging distance or the tendency to collect pollen.
