Abstract
The theoretical background for a remote sensing method is derived, potentially applicable for determining chemical and physicochemical characteristics of natural and man-made surface films. The presented theory makes use of the bond existing between rheological surface parameters and wind-excited waves. Wind wave tunnel results and a preliminary remote sensing experiment in the Ligurian Sea indicate that this method appears to be a feasible approach. Keywords
