Anomalous Spectrophotometric Behavior of Copper Phthalocyanine-Benzidine Yellow Mixtures

Abstract
Spectrophotometric reflectance curves of mixtures of copper phthalocyanine and benzidine yellow dispersions differed radically from the spectra that would be expected from a combination of these two pigments. Early tests on mixtures of the two pigment dispersions indicated that some sort of interaction was taking place. Microscopic examination eliminated flocculation and further tests showed that this unusual curve shape could not be attributed to a crystal transformation of the phthalocyanine blue. It is concluded that the anomaly can best be explained by a solvation effect of the benzidine yellow on the phthalocyanine blue.
