Abstract
Extract Sir,—The isolation of leptospires from contaminated specimens or cultures is difficult. Many mechanical and chemical methods have been tried. Galton et al. ( 1962 Galton, N. M. , Menges, R. W. , Shotts, E. B. , Nahmias, A. J. and Heath, C. W. 1962. “Leptospirosis. Epidemiology, clinical manifestadons in man and animals and methods of laboratory diagnosis”. In U.S. Publ. Hlth Serv. Publ. No. 915 Washington, D.C. [Google Scholar] ) suggested inoculation of culture media from serial dilutions, and the report of the WHO Expert Group (1967) mentioned the use of chemically defined media, 5-fluoruracil, plating media or animal inoculation. These have been tried with indifferent results in this laboratory. Keywords
