Abstract
The highly peculiar mechanism found in the crop of the females of some genera of Phoridae is described. Variation in its form and possible functions are considering. Its occurrence in a range of genera is documented, It is proposed that the structure is a synapomorphy that allows recognition of the affinities of two peculiar genera Gymnophora and Woodiphora in particular. Keywords
