Abstract
EXPERIMENTS performed during the past few years have demonstrated that the control of sodium excretion is not determined simply by changes in glomerular filtration and the secretion of aldosterone. Additional factors controlling tubular reabsorption of sodium play a major part in determining sodium excretion and sodium balance. These nonaldosterone influences on sodium reabsorption and excretion include renal vascular resistance, renal perfusion pressure, plasma oncotic pressure and possibly an as yet unidentified hormone that depresses tubular reabsorption in response to extracellular volume expansion.
