Abstract
In 15 patients with rheumatoid arthritis or scleroderma treated with therapeutic doses of adrenocorticotropic hormone or the cortical steroid, it was noted that the fall in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate could be ascribed entirely to the fall in the plasma level of either the gamma globulins or the fibrinogen. In almost all instances, both of these protein levels were suppressed by the treatment. Keywords
