Abstract
Summary: The periodic equation of motion with a general quadratic form for the eddy viscosity is solved analytically. A logarithmic expression is deduced from this solution which is in better agreement with the accurate solution than previous estimates and allows friction length theory to be put on an analytic footing. With hindsight the approximate solution may be determined directly from the initial data by simple arithmetic. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
