Abstract
Transition probabilities are calculated for the absorption of an integral number of photons by truly free electrons colliding with a laser beam in a multiphoton-free-electron interaction. Sufficient conditions, such as the threshold incident light intensity and the angular distribution of the scattered electrons, are determined. The results, besides being of importance in nonlinear quantum electrodynamics, are also relevant to plasma physics and astrophysics and to particle acceleration theory. Keywords
